Puppet Note: We let Ronn think the following. Don't believe a word of it. - Billy " Billy is one of my oldest and most evolved characters. He’s the chance I have on stage every night to be the kind of kid I always wanted to be. He’s bright and precocious; a natural leader and a very much a con-man. His only real goal is to simply get away with things. (What former child doesn’t identify with that?) " Buffalo Billy loosely resembles a cowboy because I grew up in both farmer and cowboy environs back in West Texas. "Billy dodges the nature of his existence. He claims to be an Existentialist but that's just to challenge my perception of his real-ness. He will occasionally admit to being a puppet when it gives him the advantage. He’ll boldly take over and manipulate a situation because he's convinced that it’s in everybody’s best interest that HE be in charge. "Billy’s got a good and giving side. He will set me up with some impossible vocal tasks but then he’ll generously come to my rescue. Of course, he'll take all the credit. "My latest stage version of the puppet Buffalo Billy was made by master puppet builder Ed Christie 10 years ago. Ed still heads the Muppet workshop in New York. "I like working with Buffalo Billy as a puppet primarily because, as large as he looks, he only weighs 6 pounds. He’s so light and indestructible I can manipulate him all day, and my right hand doesn’t cramp up!” |
