Acts 16:16

QUESTION: Is Ventriloquism mentioned in the Bible?
ANSWER: It depends on how old the Bible is.

In current English versions of the New Testament for both the Prostestant and Catholic Bibles, there is a quote where the word ‘ventriloquism ' was dropped out of modern translations. ( “Modern”, of course means any Bible printed after 1900. ) In Acts of the Apostles chapter 16 verse 16, the current King James Version of today now reads:

“Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl posessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling.”

It seems the Apostle Paul along with his travel companion Silas, put up with this annoying and bothersome girl who hounded them for many days as they traveled back and forth to prayer. Finally, Paul became so annoyed, that he drove out the spirit that had posessed the girl. He got thrown into jail for doing it. It seems that Paul had rather effectively stopped her from making the dead speak, and thus halted her masters’ profitable little money-making operation.

Now here’s where modern research gets interesting. Amazingly, ventriloquist historian and former museum owner Valentine Vox had on exhibit in his wonderful Las Vegas museum, an 1800’s Bible that was translated and printed BEFORE the turn of the last century.
